Cosplay is a tribute to Japanese anime, where fans of various animes and iconic movies dress as their favorite characters making their own costumes rather than buying pre-made costumes. The average cosplayer may have huge 5ft swords made from cardboard wrapped in tin foil, brightly colored wigs, skimpy bikinis, fake tattoos, or wear general Japanese attire such as kimonos or sailor school-girl uniforms. Some women make a career from professional cosplaying, being paid to dress up as various characters at particular exhibitions.
